AFFILIATIONS
2008-01-10
Maximum of five games permitted....With the playoffs and Provincials nearly upon us, and having past the critical date of Jan.10th, the Taber Minor Hockey Board would like to remind all coaches to review the Alberta Hockey Website in regards to Affiliation of players. The section on Affiliations begins on page 88 of the bylaws handbook on the website.
An important sub-section, which we would like to review...
8.8 Providing affiliation has been properly filed, prior to January 10th in any Hockey Season, an affiliated Player may play with the Hockey Team to which the Player is affiliated without limit.
After January 10th in any Hockey Season, an affiliated Player may only play 5 games (excluding Exhibition and NON-PROVINCIAL TOURNAMENT games) with the Hockey Team to which the Player is affiliated.
Should an affiliated Hockey Player play more than five games after January 10th with the Hockey Team to which the Player is affiliated, he shall not be allowed to compete any further in the Division, or if applicable, Category for which he is registered for the remainder of the playing season.
We consider it extremely important that the coaches are aware that there is a limit to how many games a player can play outside of his regular team. More info to follow on this subject.
FURTHER TO THIS TMH POLICY STATES: Proper protocol for asking an affiliate player to play with the team MUST be followed.
ie: Coach of team A asks coach of affiliated team B if a player can play for him. Coach of team B either declines or says yes and then allows contact with the player's parent, who may either decline or say yes and then the parent may inform the player.
Proper protocol: Coach to coach to parent to player.
Anyone not following this procedure may be subject to suspension.
